Two Polos, Two Different Knits
It's easy to talk about "the Performance Polo" as one fabric spec. It isn't. The Men's Performance Polo runs an 87% nylon / 13% spandex mélange knit such as a heathered, tightly-constructed blend chosen for stretch and fast recovery. The Women's Performance Polo runs a different composition entirely: 92% polyester / 8% spandex. Same job - unrestricted movement, shape recovery after stretching but two different fiber systems getting there.
That's not a downgrade on either side. Nylon-spandex blends tend to have a slightly cooler hand-feel and a more visible mélange heather; poly-spandex blends typically hold color more uniformly and resist pilling a bit differently over repeated wash cycles. We didn't default to one blend across the whole line because one blend doesn't perform identically on every body and every finish and we spec'd each gender's knit for how it actually behaves.
The Placket Is the Constant
Where the two polos agree is construction. Both run a three-button placket built for a refined, structured neckline rather than the floppy, poorly-interfaced plackets common on commodity polos. The placket is what keeps a polo looking sharp instead of curling at the collar after a few wears like a small detail, but it's usually the first place a cheap polo shows its price point.
Built to Resist Torque, Not Just Stretch
Stretch fabric that doesn't recover is worse than no stretch at all but it just means the shirt grows out of shape permanently after the first hard wear or wash. Both Performance Polo builds are engineered for structural integrity: resisting stretching, sagging, or torquing off-grain after repeated laundering. That matters more on a polo than a tee, because a polo's fitted silhouette is the entire point - a polo that balloons at the waist after wash five stops doing its job.
What the Blend Difference Means for Decoration
Both fabrics get the same ultra-smooth, tight-knit surface finish for ink adhesion, and both are viable for DTG, screen print, and embroidery but the underlying fiber still matters at the decoration stage. Synthetic-rich knits like these run hotter under standard plastisol cure temps than cotton, so we'd point decorators toward embroidery or a synthetic-compatible ink system over standard DTG for chest logos on either polo, same guidance as our screen printing and embroidery deep dives. For embroidery specifically, both stretch knits call for cutaway backing to keep stitch registration clean on a knit that has give in every direction, that requirement doesn't change between the nylon-spandex and poly-spandex builds.
Choosing Between Them
If you're private-labeling or building a team order across both men's and women's cuts, don't assume the fabric spec is identical just because the silhouette, placket, and price point line up. Sample both if wash performance or hand-feel matters to your buyer like the shared design language doesn't mean a shared bill of materials.
